I thought I’d start doing a Quote Of The Week, seeing as I am frequently inspired by the words of writers and, more specifically, their thoughts on travel.
Here is a brilliant one from Mark Twain:
“Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all of one’s lifetime.”
Agreed, Mr. Twain.
And, to perhaps spark some wanderlust for the summer to come, here is a minute anthology of photos from my experience in Greece, easily one of the most breathtaking countries I’ve visited.
Nearly a bird’s eye view of stunning Delphi, where orange rooftops bear the heat of the sun beside imposing mountains, reminding us tacitly of just how small we are.A quiet and cloudless Delphi afternoon. There is a certain magnetism in Delphi; the mountaintop village, with all its antiquity and unpretentious charm, will seduce you.Magnetic forces at play on a sun-soaked Delphi afternoon. We wandered the vacant streets from which the people flee the summer heat. It felt as if these alleyways, noiseless as they were, hummed with energy.Another view from our beguiling exploration of the unoccupied backstreets of Delphi.I could not help but feel like a speck of dust in the universe when looking out across these ruins of ancient Greece, where the Oracle of Delphi provided her perspicacious guidance to all the wandering souls who came seeking answers. The Parthenon at sunset commands attention as it glitters against the setting Grecian sun.Athens, you wonderful city, so rich with culture and bygone days. Someday I’ll return for your sensational sunsets and abiding heart.
So remember: never vegetate in your little corner of the earth. Explore.
Otherwise, you may miss some pretty stunning sunsets.
