I am a folk and indie music enthusiast.
If you do not have an ounce of appreciation for songs that contain thought-provoking lyrics, soul-stroking acoustic arrangements, or chillingly smooth voices that may or may not remind you of butter, you might as well stop reading right now.
But I think I can bring you over to my side with a little help from the following songs:
- Passenger | Heart’s On Fire
- Aoife O’Donovan | Porch Light
- Ben Howard | Only Love
- Joni Mitchell | A Case of You
- Matt Corby | Untitled
- The Head And The Heart | Rivers and Roads
- Freelance Whales | Generator ^ First Floor
- Ezra Vine | Celeste
- George Ezra | Barcelona
- Daughter | Youth
- Family of The Year | Hero
- Lord Huron | Fool for Love
- Angus & Julia Stone | Big Jet Plane
- Lewis Watson | Into The Wild
- Hozier | Like Real People Do
Highly recommended for:
- Long drives
- Late nights
- Coffee house visits
- Long walks/deep thoughts
- Staring out the window of a plane/train/automobile
- Anything else that gets you relaxed and pensive.
This is just to get you started. There are plenty more, I promise.
And if you still claim not to enjoy this genre of music after you’re through with at least ten of the songs… Well, I’m not sure if you listened thoughtfully enough. Try the last five.
Okay, just listen to them all. I dare you to do so without feeling a twinge of emotion, a twinge of that heart-wrenching pull toward something deeper. It’s just what this sort of music is intended to do.
So wherever you are, whether it be sitting still or on the move, traveling or staying put, living large or lying low, give this set a listen.
Comment your favorite, and we can share in the wildly satisfying beauty that is this music.
